AirVenture 2011 brings Flying Cars to Ardy & Ed's Restaurant
  • As part of AirVenture 2011, a display of flying cars will be featured at Ardy & Ed’s Drive-In Restaurant in Oshkosh on Sunday, July 24 at 1:00 p.m. The Maverick Flying Car, the 1956 Aerocar prototype, and the 1956 Aerocar No. 4 are among the roadable aircraft that will be displayed.

We are offering your staff the opportunity to meet with the designers and owners of these innovative flying cars. Representatives from each will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight into the production and operation of each aircraft.

Two of the flying cars will be hitting the road from the Kermit Weeks Hangar on 20th Avenue at 12:30 p.m. and arriving at Ardy & Ed’s Restaurant by 1:00. They will be on display at Ardy & Ed’s until 2:00.

Information to give you a sneak peak of the history and mechanics of these flying cars:

    · The Maverick, developed by I-TEC (Indigenous People’s Technology and Education Center), is a road-legal powered parachute designed to be accessible by even low-time pilots. The nonprofit organization aims to teach people living in remote areas, where transportation is often a major concern, how to take care of their own medical needs. The Maverick is the first flying car to be put into production since the 1956 Aerocar.

    · The 1956 Model I Aerocar is the first certified roadable aircraft to enter into production. It is an FAA-registered aircraft that can cruise at 100 mph for about 300 miles in the air. When operated without its removable wings and tail, it becomes a roadable vehicle capable of legal highway driving.

Ardy & Ed’s is an authentic 1950’s Drive-In Restaurant located at 2413 South Main Street in Oshkosh. Originally a root beer and hot dog stand, the restaurant is a real “Blast from the Past” with food served by roller skating car hops. To help us gauge attendees, please respond with your RSVP at your earliest convenience. An RSVP is appreciated but not required to attend the event.
