3 November 2011 - Non-EU countries challenge emissions regulations
- In another challenge to the European Union’s plan to regulate emissions from the world’s airlines, 26 countries including China and the United States are backing a resolution urging that non-European airlines be exempted.
3 November 2011 - Arik Air becomes member of International Air Transport Association
- Arik Air, Nigeria’s largest commercial airline, has formally been announced as IATA's newest member. The membership follows one year after Arik satisfied the requirements to be registered on the IATA Operational Safety Audit’s (IOSA) register.
7 August 2011 - BRITISH AIRWAYS PROVIDES EAST AFRICA RELIEF FLIGHT
- British Airways is flying a relief aircraft full of emergency supplies and equipment to victims of the food crisis in East Africa, where over half a million people are directly at risk of starvation. A Boeing 747 freighter with capacity for up to 110 tonnes of cargo, is scheduled to fly to Ethiopia on Friday, August 12, carrying aid from Oxfam and UNICEF.
14 April - Research group defines 2050 vision for aviation
- The EU aviation sector will reduce flight delays to just one minute regardless of weather conditions and cut CO2 emissions by 75% by mid-century, according to a visionary report by an industry-led European research group. The new long-term vision for the future of aviation was presented last week by EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas at the 2011 Aerodays in Madrid.
6 April - EC starts procedure against Bulgaria
- The European Commission has started an infringement procedure against Bulgaria over the latter's bilateral aviation services agreement with Russia. Thus, Bulgaria has joined a total of 23 other EU member states already facing the same infringement procedure on part of the European Commission.
Smolensk crash complaint
- Polish investigators looking into the air disaster in Smolensk last year plan to complain about Russia's alleged mishandling of the probe at a new EU civil aviation club.
