23 November: Asian aviation market is faced with increasing demand for qualified pilots
  • Aviation experts expect that in the next twenty years’ time around half of all flights will be directed to and from the Asian-Pacific region. Naturally, local carriers will have to treble their aircraft fleet thus raising the demand for pilots to 183 thousand. According to the data provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), currently the existing training institutions prepare only 3200 pilots out of the required 9150 which constitutes merely 35% of the entire yearly demand.
 
3 November: Japanese Air Force
  • Warplanes bearing the bright red Rising Sun logo recently roared Hyakuri Air Base, Japan, in held a once-every-three-years display to showcase one of the best air forces in Asia. The only problem — most of its fighters were grounded.
 
23 APRIL: Chinese pilots to get own campus
  • IASCO Flight Training, a flight school in Redding that trains pilots for four Chinese airlines, is hoping to make the north state its permanent home. The school opened a temporary campus on Lockheed Drive across from Redding Municipal Airport in February 2009.With the school's enrollment and workforce more than doubling since it opened two years ago, IASCO and the city are negotiating a deal that would build a permanent campus with dormitories. According to Anne Marie Guay, IASCO's president and general manager, the aim to have the campus open within two years.
 
14 APRIL: Religare Flysims Acquires Mechtronix FNPT
  • Mechtronix Systems Inc., a world leading manufacturer of Flight Simulation Training Devices, and Religare Flysims Pvt. Ltd. (Flysims), a step down subsidiary of Religare Aviation Training Academy Ltd. and a joint venture with Flywings Aviation, today announced that Flysims has placed an order for an Ascent® Turboprop Trainer™.
 
Mahindra to launch plane
  • Mahindra & Mahindra, the tractors and motor vehicles to information technology conglomerate, is set to launch its first indigenously built aircraft before March, at a price at least 20 per cent cheaper than an equivalent aircraft of Cessna, the six-seater, turboprop-engined, Stationaire model which carries a price tag of $533,400 (Rs 2.4 core), according to its website. It is the cheapest model from Cessna.
